IT was a moment of jubilation for hundreds of youths from Bulilima district who last weekend finished training on diverse trades and knowledge sharing on business startups.

More than 200 youths from Ntunungwe and Mlomwe villages got the opportunity to realise their aspirations through a series of complimentary training from Tonganyika Trust, an organisation dedicated to equipping young people in marginalised communities across the country with vocational skills.

Tonganyika Trust’s mandate and vision aptly support the Government’s stance of making sure that no child is left behind in spreading life skills knowledge and trade acquisition.
The training programme was brought to the villages by Bulilima legislator Cde Dingumuzi Phuti who is also the

Deputy Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services as means to create a society that has the potential to change their lives.

Courses on offer ranged from welding, carpentry, culinary skills, farming, fashion and design and building.
Last weekend, Ntunungwe Primary School grounds were turned into a hive as graduates celebrated with their families and communities.

For the many who graduated, it was a moment to cherish. It doesn’t come that easily for rural children to receive such life-changing skills training.

From here, the youth promised to do meaningful work from what they learned. There are dreams of opening businesses and serving the community.

“I have been dreaming of becoming a builder. This is it now. I have aced it. I now know that I will become a top notch builder who will transform the Bulilima landscape. We thank our MP, ubaba uDingumuzi Phuti and the

Tonganyika Trust. Without them, we wouldn’t have gotten this far,” said one of the graduates Pretty Moyo.
Deputy Minister Phuti, after the ceremony, had words of encouragement.

“The future belongs to the young people. We as your elders are there to guide you. I urge you to pursue your dreams through education. The only gateway out of poverty is education,” said Phuti.
