AT least 7 000 children of war veterans are expected to converge at the Zanu PF Convention Centre in Gweru tomorrow for the Children of the Liberation War Veterans Association empowerment programme.
The programme is being spearheaded by the advisor to the President Dr Paul Tungwarara.
Children of the Liberation War Veterans Association spokesperson Cde Lenini Samhembere confirmed that the event would see the children of war veterans receiving more than US$2 million as a revolving fund.
“We are 100 percent ready to host the inaugural event with at least 7 000 children of war veterans expected to attend the event,” said Cde Samhembere.
He said the event will see children of war veterans receiving tractors, mining equipment and trucks among other resources.
All the children of war veterans from the country’s 10 provinces are expected to converge in Gweru.
The gathering is a demonstration of the Government’s intention to invest in the nation’s most valuable asset, the youth.
These projects reflect the Government’s commitment to creating opportunities for the youths to engage in income-generating activities and contribute to national economic growth.
Dr Tungwarara, who is one of the brains behind the initiative, acknowledged the President’s efforts to create opportunities for the children of war veterans, regardless of their location or background.
The youth are equipped to play a leading role in the country’s development which feeds into President Mnangagwa’s vision for all places to develop under the mantra leaving no one and no place behind,
Cde Samhembere commended President Mnangagwa in delivering on the promises he made.
The fund, will provide interest-free loans to children of war veterans, enabling them to start businesses and achieve self-sufficiency.
The guest speaker will be Special Investment Advisor in the office of the President, Dr Tungwarara, the Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle, Senator Monica Mavunga, the Patron of children of war veterans, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa Jnr and the host Minister of Devolution and Provincial Affairs Owen Ncube will also grace the occasion.
The empowerment drive has already been rolled out to war veterans under the Presidential War Veterans Fund,
At least US$1,5 million has been allocated for the Presidential War Veterans Fund, with each province receiving US$150 000 as part of efforts to economically empower the country’s liberators.
