AN armed robber, Benjamin Chipiri, reached the end of his criminal enterprise after he was sentenced to 26 years in prison yesterday.

Chipiri was convicted after a full trial by Harare magistrate Clever Tsikwa. The complainants were Rachael Chigwaza 34 and Josephine Bunu 56, who are both teachers at Tadzikamidzi Primary School.

The two are also mother and daughter.

The State, represented by Ephraim Zinyandu, proved that on December 2, last year, Chipiri and his accomplices — the late Godfrey Njoromore and others still at large, broke into the two’s home.

They were armed with a pistol, catapult, machete and an iron bar.

They pointed a pistol at Chigwaza’s son.

Three of the gang members went into the bedroom and confronted Chigwaza with the pistol and a machete demanding money.

She showed them her handbag and they took US$180.

They ransacked the house and a laptop and a blue Huawei cellphone

They ransacked another room and stole US$7 984 in cash, a blood pressure testing machine, a laptop and two cellphones and groceries.

The boy managed to untie himself and ran outside and shouted for help from neighbours.

Chipiri was caught at Zengeza 2 High School.
