ELECTRICITY woes bedeviling Nyanga is soon going to be a thing of the past as the Government has stepped up efforts to electrify every household in the district.
Speaking at Nyanga South constituency Member of Parliament Cde Supa Mandiwanzira’s victory celebrations held last Friday in Nyanga, Minister of Energy and Power Development, Cde Samuel Undenge said Nyanga was poised for growth and the availability of electricity would enhance the development of socio-economic growth.
“As Government’s policy, every homestead, for tradition leaders and everyone else, in schools, in clinics will have electricity,” he said amid wild cheers from the rapturous crowd.
“Zanu-PF has a record of winning. We are a team of winners. We are achievers.
“We should remain united and be a team of winners,” he added.
Also present at the historic gathering was Zanu-PF chief whip, Cde Joram Gumbo, who stood in for Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, he said government was currently taking other developmental initiatives to improve the country’s socio-economic environment.
“These include the Ease of Doing Business Reforms, setting up Special Economic Zones and adopting various initiatives to modernise/mechanise agriculture with the assistance of friendly countries like People’s Republic of China, Brazil, Belarus and India. There are also efforts to improve power generation.
“I urge the local community and the traditional and political leadership to continue to develop the infrastructure and potential of Nyanga to ensure that our children and the children after them continue to enjoy the fruits of the sustainable exploitation of our natural resources,” he said.
In a windfall for farmers, VP Mnangagwa received 150 tonnes of cement meant for infrastructural development such as clinics, ECD blocks as well as for community irrigation schemes.
The district’s Community Information Centre also received 15 computers and a 60 inch Plasma television and decoder.
The historic gathering saw a galaxy of artistes such as firebrand Landmine Madongonda, Nicholas “Madzibaba” Zakaria, Jah Prayzah, Blessing Shumba, Suluman Chimbetu, Tocky, Sniper, Baba Manyeruke taking turns to entertain scores of people – including children and the elderly – who attended the event which was free for all.
Crowd favourite, Madongonda, a prominent farmer and Muwi Village headman, stole the limelight after his group, Zenda brothers put up well-choreographic acts.
He belted hits such as Madhisinyongoro, PaNyanga, Garikayi and Jeki.
Residents interviewed by The Manica Post thanked Cde Mandiwanzira for being a “responsible leader” who always put others first.
“Since I was born, I had never seen such a gathering. We thank Cde Mandiwanzira for bringing these artists to Nyanga.
“This was my first time watching Jah Prayzah and Tocky Vibes live on stage,” said an elated Tendai Chirombowe of Nyamhuka Township.
Said Lynet Chitondwe: “This is a historic crowd. I am enjoying every second of this event and I would like to thank Cde Supa for bringing these artistes here. We are usually starved in terms of live performances here but nhasi ndezveduwo.”
Cde Mandiwanzira thanked Nyanga electorate for believing in him.
“This is not a personal celebration. I would like to thank you all for voting for me.
“Thank you for showing confidence in me. I promised a banquet like this when I visited you in wards. Thank you for your love and support,” he said.
