Energy Perm Sec commends REF

Energy and Power Development Permanent Secretary, Mr Patson Mbiriri has commended the Rural Electrification Fund (REF) for the progress it has made over the past few years. Addressing scores of villagers who converged at Nyamatani Primary School, about 50km South West of Kadoma town in Sanyati District to witness the official commissioning of the Nyamatani Electrification project on April 21 2016, Mr Mbiriri said the Fund has been rejuvenated intoone of the most reliable and high performing state entities under his ministry.

Mr Mbiriri said the provision of energy in the rural areas of Zimbabwe was promoting development and empowering rural communities to engage in business ventures that will improve their lifestyle.

“The provision of electricity will improve the way of life of the people in rural area as they will be able to engage in income generating projects to improve their way of life” he said.

The Permanent Secretary expressed disappointment at the high level of vandalism and theft of electricity infrastructure which he described as a serious drawback to REF’s efforts in providing energy in the rural areas of Zimbabwe.

He urged traditional leaders to take a leading role in guarding the infrastructure against theft and vandalism.
