A 34-year-old Bulawayo man who stole an engine head from a car parked at his workplace has been sentenced to perform 315 hours of community service.
Thembelani Ndlovu (34) of Old Lobengula suburb appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube facing a charge of theft.
He pleaded guilty to the offence and was initially sentenced to 15 months in prison, of which six months were suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within that period.
The remaining nine months were suspended on condition that he completes 315 hours of community service at Western Commonage Magistrates Court.
Prosecutor, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete said the complainant is Zakheni Ndebele (29), a supervisor at Hawkflight, while the accused is a brick molder, and the two are co-workers.
He said that on May 6, 2026, at around 6:30 AM, the accused person opened a parked Toyota Dyna Truck, registration number ADV 0997, parked at Hawkflight Construction, and took an engine head, which was on the passenger seat before leaving.
The court heard that a police report was made, leading to the arrest of the accused person.
The total value stolen is US$600, and all the property was recovered, said Mr Dzimbanhete.
