Engineer ducks maintenance

A Government engineer has been brought before the Harare Civil Court by his estranged wife for failing to fend for his child.

Daniel Kapaso allegedly neglected his minor child following his separation with Lyn Mwandifuka.

Mwandifuka, who was demanding $150 for the upkeep of their child, told magistrate Mrs Barbra Mateko that Kapaso as a Government engineer earned a lot of money, but was neglecting his child.

She told the court that Kapaso lived a lavish lifestyle and frequented foreign countries among them Switzerland, Britain and the United States on work-related assignments and was caring for his girlfriend’s two children.

Kapaso, who admitted to being an engineer with the Government, offered $50, saying he earned $289 a month. “I am married to another woman. (Mwandikufa) is a State Registered Nurse and should also help in fending for the child,” he said.

Mrs Mateko ordered Kapaso to produce a bank statement, before deferring the case to today.
