ENTUMBANE High School are sitting on top of the log standings of the fourth edition of the Dumisani “Zifa” Ndlovu Foundation games with 11 points after a win and a defeat on Saturday at Gifford High School.

Entumbane overcame Milton Boys High School 2-1 before suffering a same scoreline defeat at the hands of bottom placed Mtshabezi High School later during the proceedings. They went to edge the hosts 1-0 in a day where seven matches took place with one being a girls fixture in the second round of the 2023 games.

In other matches, the hosts edged Mtshabezi 2-1 and also went on to win 1-0 against old foes, Milton. The Miltonians managed to redeem themselves in their last game, thumping Mtshabezi 3-0 in what was the highest win of the tournament on the day. In the only girls match, Mtshabezi and Entumbane shared the spoils after a goalless draw.

All teams in the boys’ section have played six games apiece with the leaders, Entumbane winning three games, suffering two defeats and drawing once for their 11 points. They have a goal difference of two after scoring six and conceding four. In second place there is Gifford who are on 10 points after three wins, one draw and two defeats followed by Milton on seven points, which came from two wins, one draw and three losses. Bottom placed Mtshabezi have six points having won two and lost four of their games.

On the girls’ side, Entumbane and Mtshabezi are on two points after playing out draws in their two encounters.

The next round of games will take place at Entumbane High School next term at a date yet to be advised by the organisers and the final will be at Mtshabezi in August.

“As Gifford High School, we would like to thank you for visiting us, this is our home as much as it is yours and we hope that the next time we meet here (at Gifford) you will be smiling as you are today and with that, thank you for coming here,” Gifford High’s School’s sports director Collet Murombo told the players.

Lizwi Nyathi, the Mtshabezi coach urged the youngsters to be disciplined and respect the laws of the game.

Disturbed by the Covid-19 pandemic, which saw no action taking place in 2020, 2021 and 2022, this year’s edition got off to a brilliant start at Milton a fortnight ago. The event is sponsored by United Kingdom-based Zimbabwean school teacher, Dumisani Ndlovu and each year, he supplies each school with a new kit and also brings another set of kits for the finals. He also provides match balls. – @brandon_malvin
