TWENTY merchandisers drawn from Bulawayo and Gweru have been recognised for outstanding performance at their various workstations in the two cities. The merchandisers were drawn from various companies and placed at different Metro Peech, OK Zimbabwe, TM Pick ‘n’ Pay, Mega Market, Greens Supermarket, Fortwell and N Richards outlets. Recognition of merchandisers as playing an important role to a company’s sales was the driving factor behind the launch of the monthly recognitions.
“It was an exciting month which saw many merchandisers pull up their stockings and try to be in the top 20 merchandisers list,” said Enzyme Marketing, organisers of the awards who also train the mechandisers. “The work done by the management and staff of these outlets is outstanding.
“Our work simply complements them. “The way customers are being treated and assisted in these outlets is impressive and will without doubt improve consumer traffic flow.” The top three merchandisers for the month of July are Prince Nyathi (Arenel), Alast Moyo (Brand Action) and Parsmonias Musiiwa (Trade Port).
Magret Nyamandi (Brands Africa) was commended for putting in “extra hours and effort in her work to please her customers.” Enzyme Marketing said it had observed in the course of the last month that presentability and a clean work space went a long way in driving sales.
The company said the majority of the rated merchandisers fully understood the importance of good product handling while a minority was under the impression that a product will sell itself.
It said visual displays play an important role in the decision making process of consumers in a retail outlet and a significant percentage (36 percent) of rated merchandisers did not know that.
Stock management issues and knowing stock on hand balances, the company noted, gives the merchandisers the advantage of knowing if their stock is selling or not and also what needs to be restocked or promoted.
“We had some good testimonies from outlets with some mentioning that they are noticing a remarkable improvement in the way merchandisers take their jobs now. “One has to visit N Richards or Metro Peech in Bulawayo to see the great standards of merchandising in a wholesale set-up,” said the company.
