THE Epworth Local Board has issued a five-day ultimatum to owners of broken-down and abandoned vehicles to remove them from road reserves or risk having them towed away.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, the local authority directed owners to clear all unserviceable vehicles and those parked along servitudes and off carriageways that encroach into traffic lanes.
The board said the practice posed serious hazards to motorists and pedestrians, disrupted traffic flow, and violated municipal by-laws.
“Failure to remove the vehicles within five days from the publication of this notice shall result in vehicles being towed away to the Epworth Local Board Impound yard without further notice,” read the notice.
The local board said it will work with the Central Mechanical Equipment Department (CMED) to tow heavy-duty vehicles and haulage trucks.
Vehicle owners have been warned they will be liable for towing, storage and administrative charges if their vehicles are impounded.
