adminYoung Igwe put up a five-star performance that left the crowd begging for more at the end of his show in the wee hours of Monday morning.
Shiga Shiga, who was a doubt for the show, performed beside Young Igwe, as he provided backing vocals.
Young Igwe belted out new and old hits from his father’s wide selection such as Naye, Murozvi Mukuru (Samanyemba), Zakeyo and Muchina Muhombe, among others, that kept the crowd on their feet the whole night.
Walking onto the stage, Young Igwe was wearing a short-sleeved fur coat that gave him a striking resemblance to his father. He then lit up the stage with dance moves that were neatly choreographed and his mannerisms resembled his father’s.
Not to be outdone supporting dance group Sexy Angels from Harare, comprising four girls, joined Young Igwe on the stage as he sang Muchina Muhombe.
Their dance routine involved suggestive gyrations that mesmerised the crowd.
Speaking after the show Young Igwe said he was happy with his first show in Esigodini and the reception he got was overwhelming.
“The reception I received was good as it was my first time this side of the country.
“Next week I will be performing with Macheso in Harare,” he said.
Young Igwe said his father regarded Matabeleland as his favourite place and he would love to come back for a performance in Bulawayo.
He said he would be working hard to master his father’s songs first before he could start recording his own album.
“I am writing here and there, but before I go into the studio, I want to master all my father’s songs.
“It is very hard work,” Young Igwe said.
He described his father as a hard worker and he would try to live up to his legacy of being a respected musician in the country. “I respect my father, he was selfless and the band supports five families. So I am continuing the legacy that my father left and I hope that I can
emulate him,” Young Igwe said.
