IN a sporting environment where talent often goes untapped due to lack of proper development structures, one academy is stepping up to change the game.
Elite Social Soccer League (ESSL) formed in Bulawayo in March is setting a bold new standard in youth football development.
ESSL director of development Boga Ndebele says the academy stands out for its focus on more than just physical talent.
The academy is built on a foundation of creating highly cognitive, tactically intelligent players who can read the game, adapt to modern styles, and compete at the highest levels.
“Our goal is to build players who will go on to represent Zimbabwe at the national level and thrive in international football markets,” said Ndebele.
“We are targeting boys and girls aged 11 to 20, but we have also opened our doors to anyone over 20 who is serious about sharpening their skills.”
Training sessions are held at Busters Sports Ground, with classes every Friday at 3PM and Saturday at 9am.
Under the guidance of experienced coaches, players are trained in all aspects of the game, technical skills, tactical awareness, physical conditioning, and mental strength.
What sets ESSL Academy apart is its long-term vision.
“In two years, we want to be a model of how academies in this country should be structured. In five years, our players, coaches, and even football administrators will be making a name for themselves across the football world.”
