A Harare man has appeared in court on allegations of abusing his position as an estate administrator to defraud a deceased person’s estate of US$12 000.
Tryson Mapinde (32) of Kuwadzana 4 was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Jessie Kufa facing charges of theft of trust property.
The court heard that the complainant is the estate of the late Imbayago Mapinde, represented by Mathew Courage Mapinde.
Allegations are that on September 2, 2025, Mapinde, who had been appointed administrator of the estate, hatched a plan to unlawfully enrich himself.
It is alleged that he took advantage of a power of attorney granted to him, which authorised him to dispose of properties belonging to the estate.
Mapinde allegedly sold three residential stands in Rimuka Township, Kadoma, each measuring 260 square metres.
The stands, identified as numbers 37, 38 and 39 under various deed numbers, were each valued at US$4 000.
The court heard that Mapinde received a total of US$12 000 from a buyer after selling the properties.
However, instead of surrendering the proceeds to the estate, he allegedly converted the money to his own use without the knowledge or consent of the complainant.
