adminSpeaking soon after the arrival of the group, Ethiopian ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Koang Dung said Zimbabwe-Ethiopia relations has matured and that it was high time the two countries shared cultural exchange programmes.
“We have always had government to government relations and this is a way to take our relations further. The coming of the traditional dance group will open avenues for ordinary people to interact,” he said.
Dubbed the “Ethiopian Night,” audience at the gig are expected to sample some Ethiopian food and have a feel of Ethiopian music.
Director General of Ethiopian National Theatre Desta Kassa said the group was looking forward to performing in the country.
“This is our first time in the country, but Zimbabwe is a friend of our country. We feel we are at home and we hope to give a good account of ourselves,” he said.
Kassa said fans should brace for a good show as the group had performed in many lands.
“We have travelled around the globe performing. We performed in China, Algeria, United States of America, Burundi among other countries. Everywhere we go, we leave people asking for more,” he said.
Ethiopian Airlines area manager Zimbabwe Ms Fitsimt Dejene, said they collaborated with Ethiopian Embassy as well as the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority in sponsoring the Ethiopian cultural music group to participate in the Zimbabwe International Carnival week.
“During the week, we will celebrate Ethiopian culture and heritage and share with our supporters and friends the potential and vision of Ethiopia as a nation and Ethiopian Airlines as the leading African airline,” she said.
“We will also celebrate contribution of Ethiopia and Ethiopian Airlines to African independence and African Aviation. Ethiopian Airlines is the official carrier for both events: 50th Anniversary of Celebration of OAU-AU; Zimbabwe International Carnival.”
