THE European Film Festival Zimbabwe (EuroFilmFestZW) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the local film industry through cultural exchange, skills development and collaboration between Zimbabwean and European filmmakers.

The festival was officially launched today at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Harare. The three-day programme is running from October 28 to 30.

The Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Honourable Lt-Gen (Rtd) Anselem Sanyatwe, was represented at the launch by National Arts Council of Zimbabwe chief executive officer Napoleon Nyanhi.

Addressing the gathering, Nyanhi highlighted the Government’s commitment to growing the film sector and commended the European Union for sustaining the festival, describing it as an important platform for strengthening cultural ties between Zimbabwe and European countries.

This year’s edition is running under the theme “The Next Frame”, with a focus on nurturing local filmmaking talent, promoting cultural dialogue and exploring ways to build a sustainable film industry.

The programme brings together filmmakers, actors, industry professionals and film enthusiasts for screenings, workshops, masterclasses and discussions aimed at encouraging knowledge-sharing and professional collaboration.

Seasoned actors featuring in this year’s festival include Hollywood-based Chipo Chung, Leroy Gopal, Tendaiishe Chitima, Alex Muziyani, Leroy Siyafa and Gamuchirayi Mukwakwamu.

Organised by the European Union in partnership with EU member states and cultural institutions, the festival was established in 2016 by the EU Delegation to Zimbabwe and its member states.

Over the years, it has evolved from a platform showcasing European cinema into an opportunity for Zimbabwean filmmakers to screen their productions, engage with international counterparts and establish professional networks.

Through its diverse programme, EuroFilmFestZW continues to provide a space for cinematic expression while opening opportunities for collaboration and the growth of Zimbabwe’s creative economy.
