adminCape Town —The Northern Hemisphere rugby family has come together to recognise the impact that Jonah Lomu had on their game both on and off the pitch by launching their own European online donation site www.jonahlomulegacyeu.com. 100 percent of the contributions made will go directly into the Jonah Lomu Legacy Trust to support the Trust’s objectives and Jonah’s children.
The New Zealand Rugby Players Association (NZRPA) have established the Trust and their Chief Executive Rob Nichol summed up the public sentiment since the Rugby Legend’s passing.
“As we heard in the days following Jonah’s passing he gave so much to the game and sport in general, to people and communities, organisations and charities, around the world. The tributes that followed, such as Eric Rush’s speech on behalf of his rugby colleagues, provided an insight into a man we’re all proud of, who was a gift to the game and who really took rugby to the world”
“We all know how important and special Jonah’s children, Brayley and Dhyreille, were to him. In supporting them we couldn’t imagine a better way of honouring Jonah’s fantastic legacy”
CEO of The Irish Rugby Players Association (IRUPA) Omar Hassanein spoke of the impact that he made in Europe.
“Since the game of rugby went professional 20 years ago, no man has made a bigger impact to promote and open our sport up to a new audience than Jonah Lomu. When we saw that the Trust Fund had been set up in New Zealand we felt it right and appropriate to launch a similar European one. There’s been a huge outpouring from the European rugby community and this platform will now give them their own personal way of saying ‘Thanks Jonah’
The Trust will be managed by a team of highly skilled professional individuals who are not related to the Lomu boys or family. The Trustees will ensure 100 percent of the funds raised will go solely to benefit of Brayley and Dhyreille Lomu and their off-spring.— AFP.
