DIRECTOR of Media Services in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Mr George Chisoko has called for more interactive engagements that unpack the Zimbabwe Media Policy launched by President Mnangagwa in May.
In his brief remarks before introducing Minister Jenfan Muswere at the 2025 Annual Media Stakeholders Conference in Harare on Wednesday, Mr Chisoko said the whole nation needed to understand the policy and not only the media fraternity.
“These indabas are a good starting point, but let us not stop at this one . . . let us have more (engagements), even another one this year, because we need to unpack this media policy.
“It is there in the shelves, but no one talks about it and not many understand the media policy. It is not only us the journalists that must understand the media policy, but even people out there should understand it,” he said.
Approved by Cabinet in April, the Zimbabwe Media Policy seeks to transform the nation’s media landscape by promoting viability and sustainability.
Key objectives include enhancing the country’s image and sovereignty while fostering a robust digital economy and a diverse media industry.
With a focus on modern infrastructure and professionalism, the policy also aims to establish a comprehensive code of ethics to elevate local media standards.
