A 30-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man from Pumula Old suburb has appeared in court for allegedly raping his 16-year-old niece.
The accused, who cannot be named to protect the victim’s identity, appeared before Western Commonage regional magistrate. Pasipanodya Maturure, facing a charge of rape. He was remanded in custody to 18 November for trial.
Prosecuting, Christina Manyika told the court that the alleged offence occurred on 17 October.
“On that particular day, the accused arrived at the complainant’s home around midday and found her washing dishes outside,” she said.
The court heard the man allegedly grabbed the girl, dragged her into the house and pushed her onto the floor, where he forcibly undressed and raped her.
The complainant later reported the matter to her mother, who accompanied her to the police station, leading to the man’s arrest. She was referred to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical examination.
