WHERE once promises bloomed, rage took root!
A 28-year-old man from Makuzeze Village under Chief Tshitshi in Mphoengs Matabeleland South province was found behind enemy lines after he allegedly brutally assaulted his ex-lover with a belt and knobkerrie until it broke into pieces following a heated dispute sparked by suspicions of infidelity.
Ndodana Ncube allegedly assaulted his ex-lover Naledi Khupe after a misunderstanding on the suspicion that she was having an affair.
Circumstances are that on 2 January at around 5pm, Ndodana Ncube found his ex-girlfriend, Naledi Khupe, at his homestead, where she was relaxing with his niece Lebohang Ncube.
He confronted her and accused her of infidelity while questioning the paternity of her child.
A misunderstanding broke out between the two parties and Ndodana swiftly unbuckled his belt, driving his niece to seek refuge elsewhere.
Ndodana dragged Naledi into his bedroom hut and closed the door and thrashed her with his belt all over her body until it broke.
He then reached for his knobkerrie which was under the bed and used it to repeatedly strike her with it on the back and shoulders before it also broke into pieces.
Naledi escaped from the bedroom and Ndodana followed her outside where he hit her with an unknown object and she fell.
He kicked her in the face until she broke free and ran, shouting for help.
Her desperate plea reached the ears of Ndodana’s grandfather who swiftly intervened and ordered him to stop assaulting Naledi.
The injured Naledi was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Ndodana and his subsequent appearance in court.
He appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware charged with assault.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 12 January.
Prosecutor Selestine Madziwa appeared for the State.
