FORMER Chicken Inn duo of goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze and forward Edmore Chirambadare are back in the South Africa’s DStv Premiership League after their club Magesi gained promotion into the topflight league courtesy of a 3-1 win over Milford last Sunday.
Chipezeze played Baroka in the premiership before switching to Magesi while Chirambadare who turned out for former champions Kaizer Chiefs after moving from Chicken Inn turned out for a number of lower league clubs in South Africa before moving to the Limpopo based club.
In a celebratory message that he wrote on his Facebook Wall, Chipezeze, an ex-Warriors goalkeeper went: “Never stop, never give up, never stop giving yourself the self-confidence you need to be a champion.”
Quoting a Biblical scripture Isaiah 60:22, Chirambadare, who has also previously did duty for the now defunct Tsholotsho FC on the local scene, wrote: “When the time is right, I, the Lord, will make it happen.”
Their former coach at Chicken Inn, Joey Antipas said he was happy that their two former players are back in the famous Super Diski League.
“It’s pleasing to note that Chipezeze and Chirambadare are back to fight it out with the big boys in South Africa’s Premiership League.
It’s a very competitive league which I believe will give them another platform to shine and showcase what they are made of. Actually, I think that’s where they belong with a number of other Zimbabwean players,” said Antipas.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwean youngster Vernon Masara has been named Burnley’s Academy Player of the Year for the 2023/2024 season.
Masara, who turned 17 last month, has spent much of the season playing with Burnley Under 21 side.
He reportedly started the campaign with some nagging injuries before he regained his full fitness for full time training sessions.

Masara was presented his gong by club chairman Alan Pace at halftime of the senior team’s Premier League match Newcastle United on Saturday, with his family watching.
In an interview with Burnley media after receiving the award, the Warriors prospect said: “I would like to thank god as I’ve had some tough moments battling with a few injuries since I’ve been at Burnley, but
I’ve always managed to overcome them and come back better and stronger. It’s a really proud moment for me and my family and a bit of a relief moment, too, proving that my hard work is paying off.
“I am very appreciative to the coaches that have helped me progress and given me a platform to improve over the years and I really look forward to seeing what the future holds.”
Masara, who has been with the Clarets since the age of nine, signed a two-year scholarship deal ahead of the 2023/2024 season. –@FungaiMuderere
