Two ex-convicts allegedly stabbed to death a Glen Norah man and seriously injured his friend before stealing $3 cash and a mobile phone. Alouis Hungwe (26) and Silas Carlton Mufandaedza (33) were once arrested for theft and served five years and six months, respectively.

The unrepentant pair appeared before magistrate Mr Milton Serima on Monday charged with two counts of murder and attempted murder.

Their two accomplices are still at large.

Mr Serima advised the two to seek bail at the High Court and remanded them to February 9.

It is the State’s case that on November 29 last year, the gang hatched a plan to rob pedestrians between Glen Norah and Mukuvisi River. Armed with knives and screwdrivers, they hid in a bushy area and waylaid Amon Mapazure and Enos Zumba.

As the two friends were walking down the footpath after their vehicle had developed a mechanical fault, the gang suddenly emerged and attacked. They demanded money and valuables. They allegedly stole US$3, a Nokia Asha mobile phone and a spare wheel from the boot of the vehicle.

After the robbery, the gang turned to the two who were lying in a pool of blood and stabbed them again using knives.

They also took the pair’s shoes and fled, the State alleged.
