Ex-cop, soldier arrested for robbery

Mutare, have been arrested.
John Claudius Mutizwa alias John Claudius Sibanda Moyo (28) of Zengeza was based at the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters in Mutare before he was dismissed in 2003 for misconduct while Keith Chikosha (26) was based at 2 Brigade Headquarters in Harare. He was discharged from the army for indiscipline in November 2008.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Leonard Chabata, confirmed the arrest of the duo and said investigations were still in progress. He said on September 27 at around 2pm, the two approached two foreign currency dealers Daniel Chigunde (25) and Taurai Taurai (27) in Mutare.
They showed their victims a police identity card and “arrested” them. “Mutizwa and Chikosha accused Chigunde and Taurai of illegally dealing in foreign currency and ordered them to get into a taxi they had hired,” Insp Chabata said.
The taxi driver, who was duped into believing that they were genuine policemen, was ordered to drive to Sakubva Police Station. Along the way, it is alleged that the two ordered Chigunde and Taurai them to surrender their cash and valuables at gunpoint.
Chigunde surrendered US$2 000, R11 000 and a cellphone while Taurai surrendered US$3 567 and R9 900.
“When the taxi arrived near TM supermarket in Sakubva, the duo ordered the driver to stop and they approached three other victims who they ordered to get into the car,” Insp Chabata said.
They took their airtime cards and ordered the driver to drive to a guardroom, which was being manned by a policeman at Sakubva Police Station.
