Former Dynamos Football Club’s coach David Mandigora was yesterday fined $100, or risks spending a week in prison for negligent driving. Mandigora (58) caused an accident in Harare’s central business district which left the driver of the other vehicle hospitalised. The former coach yesterday appeared before magistrate Ms Vongai Muchuchuti charged with “driving without due care and attention or reasonable consideration for others”. He pleaded guilty to the charge before pleading for mercy, arguing that he had never been caught on the wrong side of the law as it was his first time to appear in court as an accused person.
Ms Muchuchuti ordered him to pay $100 fine on or before November 30 failure of which, Mandigora will spend six days in prison. On September 25 in the early hours of the morning, Mandigora was driving a Toyota Platz along Samora Machel Avenue travelling due east.
At that same time Hillary Chifunda was driving a Toyota Hilux going the opposite direction. On approaching a T-junction, Mandigora turned right in front of Chifunda and the two vehicles collided. Both vehicles sustained damages and Chifunda was hospitalised due to injuries from the accident.
Miss Anesu Matorofa prosecuted. Meanwhile, Brighton Tuwaya a former Dynamos FC defender, has written the team a letter of demand for $8 000. Tuwaya, through his lawyer Mr Tarisai Mukwacha of Hove Legal Practice, wrote the letter demanding signing on fees and winning bonuses, which he said he was supposed to receive between 2008 and 2010.
The club was given seven days to respond.
