Moreblessing Ncube
A LUPANE man’s idea of a “50/ 50” divorce settlement has landed him behind bars after he literally tore his ex-wife’s house apart!
Elliot Sibanda (59) from Chauza Village, was a sorry sight when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Patience Madondo to answer charges of domestic violence.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to March 13 for trial.
Prosecutor Joseph Rugara told the court that on December 18, 2025, Sibanda visited Masayı village in Insuza, where his ex-wife, Soneni Ncube, was living.
There, he left his wife sleeping under the stars when he allegedly destroyed her two-roomed house, took the iron zinc sheets, the door frames and windows frames and returned to Lupane with the property.
In his defence, Sibanda claimed the demolition was a desperate attempt to force a “fair” share of the property after Ncube reportedly refused to divide their assets.
A heartbroken Ncube told the court that the incident didn’t affect her mental health, but she struggled for months without a place to sleep.
She then begged the court to give her ex a sentence that fits his “wrecking ball” behaviour.
The total damage to the property was valued at US$1 397, all of which has since been repaired.
