THE Marketing Manager of CIMAS Medical Aid Society in Bulawayo, Nkululeko Dube, was yesterday dragged to maintenance court by his ex lover.
Dube, who takes home about $800 per month, told magistrate Adelaide Mbeure that he could only pay $50 for his seven-year-old child with Wadzanai Chirenda.
“I’m offering $50 as maintenance as I’ve been buying school uniforms and paying fees which are $80 per term. I’m also a married man and my wife is expecting,” he said.
Chirenda was claiming $281 as maintenance. She said Dube should take responsibility for his child as he had been neglecting the minor.
“It’s not easy to get anything from him. What I wish is that he should be responsible for the child. At times he sends one uniform which is not enough and at pre-school I had to take care of the fees on my own,” she said.
“He is lying when he says he has been taking care of the child since pre-school. He only started doing so in third term grade one and he does not buy clothes for the child”.
In response, Dube said he has always looked after the child and produced school receipts as evidence that he has also contributed towards the upkeep of his child.
Mbeure ordered Dube to pay maintenance of $120 with effect from the end of this month.
“In coming up with the order, the court considered that the respondent is gainfully employed getting $800 per month as his net salary.
“Considering the respondent’s means, a sum of $120 will be appropriate,” said Mbeure.
