Ex-minister joins Implats board

FORMER Industry and International Trade Minister Nkosana Moyo has joined the world’s second largest platinum producer Impala Platinum as an independent non-executive director.

The JSE-listed Impala Platinum is the parent company for Zimbabwean subsidiary, Zimplats.

“Implats is pleased to announce the appointments of Sydney Mufamadi, Bernard Swanepoel and Nkosana Moyo as independent non-executive directors to the board of directors with immediate effect,” said the company in a statement.

Moyo is the founder and executive chairman of the Mandela Institute for Development Studies and has served on the boards of a number of firms in sectors such as mining, airline, sugar, food, tourism and finance.

“As a Zimbabwean national, he has served on the boards of a number of companies in the cement, sugar, finance, tourism, mining, airline and food sectors.

“Previously, he served as the vice president and chief operating officer of the African Development Bank in Tunisia, while he has also held the positions of Managing Partner for Actis (a global private equity firm) in Africa, as well as a senior advisor and associate for the International Finance Corporation,” said Impala Platinum.

Mufamadi is the director of the School of Leadership at the University of Johannesburg and serves on the subsidiary boards of Barclays Bank Africa Group in Mozambique and Tanzania.

Swanepoel is a businessman with extensive deep-level mining and commercial experience.

He is currently a partner at To-The-Point Growth Specialists, is the non-executive chairman of Village Main Reef and serves as non-executive director on the boards of Sanlam Limited and African Rainbow Minerals Limited.
