Ex-SA minister appointed to Zimplats board

ZIMBABWE Platinum Holdings (Zimplats) has appointed South Africa’s former Minister of Safety and Security Sydney Mufamadi as a non-executive director on its board, with effect from the beginning of this month.

Mufamadi has also held the post of SA’s Minister of Provincial and Local Government.

“Zimplats Holdings Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Sydney Mufamadi as a non-executive director of Zimplats Holdings Limited with effect from 1 May 2015,” said the company’s chief executive officer Alex Mhembere in a statement last week.

Mufamadi was initially appointed as an independent non-executive director of Zimplats’ SA-headquartered parent company, Impala Platinum Holdings Ltd, on March, 5, 2015.

Mufamadi holds an MSc Degree and a PhD Degree from the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies.

“He distinguished himself in various leadership positions that he has held in the past, including being the Minister of Safety and Security as well as the Minister of Provincial and Local Government in the Republic of South Africa,” reads the statement.

Currently, Mufamadi is the director of the School of Leadership at the University of Johannesburg. He serves on the subsidiary boards of the Barclays Bank Africa Group in Mozambique and Tanzania.

And he is renowned for his mediation and conflict resolution skills as well as his expertise in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy. – BH24.
