FORMER Studio 263 actor Revlino Gwanzura has been removed from remand in a US$250 000 fraud case after the State failed to provide him with a trial date within a reasonable period.
Harare Regional Magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa removed Gwanzura from remand, with the State now expected to proceed by way of summons if it intends to bring him back to court.
Gwanzura was facing allegations of defrauding a company in a botched residential stands deal.
The State alleged that between January 2024 and August 2025, the complainant’s husband, who was the company’s first director, fell ill, preventing the couple from reporting for work.
During that period, Gwanzura allegedly took advantage of his position as the overall person in charge of Enhanced Mortgaging Housing (Private) Limited while the complainant stayed at home caring for her husband.
The court heard that Gwanzura allegedly connived with Gondai Marange, who is still at large and is the late director’s son, to publish an advertisement claiming that the company was selling residential stands.
However, the State alleges that Gwanzura knew the company was not selling any residential stands.
The duo allegedly collected instalments from 105 individuals, accumulating a total of US$250 000, which they then converted to their own use.
The court was informed that the complainant returned to work in March 2025, at which point victims began approaching the company, demanding their residential stands.
According to the State, the complainant discovered the offence when victims presented fake receipts that did not belong to the company.
An internal audit using the collected receipts indicated that the accused had prejudiced the company of US$250 000.
