FORMER Thornhill High School students under the Thornhill Old Students Association (TOSA) banner on Thursday donated 450 chairs to the school as part of their contribution to a growing enrolment.

The association intimated to the Sunday News that it plans to acquire and install a solar system at the school to ensure there is no power interruption in the event that there is no electricity. In an interview, TOSA executive member Mr Allan Benza said it was their pride to see Thornhill flourishing.

“As an association we decided to develop the standards of our former school and maintain the pride that we have as Thornhill Alumni. The school that I am talking about produced the likes of businessman Kuda Tagwirei, former deputy minister Tapiwanashe Matangaidze, lawyers, doctors and a lot of big names in the country. It is our responsibility to maintain the good standard so that the school continues to produce better people for the country,” said Mr Benza.

Mr Benza challenged Zimbabweans to develop a culture of giving back for the betterment of communities.

“I think if all Zimbabweans develop a culture of giving back, we can make the best for the communities where we come from. If you visit leisure spots you see people spending thousands on fine whisky every weekend. How about if one spares some money for areas of need from their communities of background,” he said.

Thornhill High School headmaster Mr Solomon Mazvazva commended the former students for the generous contribution, saying they were filling gaps of significance to the institution.

“I would like to thank the former Thornhill Alumni for their commitment in the development of the institution. It is a sign of appreciation of where they are coming from and that spirit should be cultivated by all for the development of the country’s communities,” he said.

He added that it was wonderful to have a generous generation that thrives on identifying and closing the gaps from within the communities that made them who they were.
