FORMER Warriors defender, Dumisani Mpofu has hailed the Highlanders’ rebuilding exercise led by Zambian gaffer, Kelvin Kaindu.
Fondly known as Commando, during his playing days, Mpofu was part of the crowd that witnessed Bosso’s Week 23 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixture against Ngezi Platinum Stars at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
The match ended one-all to take fourth-placed Bosso’s points tally to 37, eight behind log leaders FC Platinum.
“I have so much respect for the Highlanders coach (Kelvin Kaindu). I think he is doing very well with his team and he is a great tactician. I am tipping Highlanders and FC Platinum to do well this season,” said Mpofu.
Bosso engaged in a rebuilding exercise at the start of the season in a development that has seen them unleash young Marvin Sibanda, Reward Muza, Raphael Pitisi, Marvelous Chigumira, Mckinnon Mushore, Prince Ndlovu and Archford Faira, among other upcoming stars. Mpofu said he was in Bulawayo to visit his relatives.
“I am a Bulawayo boy and I’m here to visit my relatives. There is nothing more to my visit,” said the ex-CAPS United defence kingpin.
The retired star had a notable career in South Africa. He played for Bush Bucks from 2001 to 2006 and later for Western Province United until 2008.
Mpofu was known for his solid defensive skills and contributed significantly to his teams during his time in the South African leagues.
Born in 1973, Commando was part of the Warriors squad that made its debut appearance at the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations finals together with the likes of Peter Ndlovu, Energy Murambadoro, Esrom Nyandoro, Bekithemba Ndlovu, Dazzy Kapenya, Agent Sawu, Lazarus Muhoni and George Mbwando, among others. — @FungaiMuderere
