The International Finance Corporation recently named Zimbabwean Ms Mary-Jean Moyo as division director for a key six-nation region covering Tanzania, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, effective September 1.
Based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Ms Moyo oversees IFC’s strategic operations and engagement across the cluster.
Her directive focuses on advancing an integrated approach to mobilising private sector investment, strengthening local enterprise, and accelerating sustainable, inclusive economic growth aimed at generating more and higher-quality jobs across East and Southern Africa.
Ms Moyo brings a rich background spanning development finance, private sector investment, commercial banking, and international institutional leadership across emerging markets in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East.
Before her latest appointment, Ms Moyo served as chief of staff to the managing director of the IFC.
Her previous executive roles within the global institution include regional industry director for, manufacturing, agribusiness and services in the Middle East and Africa. In that position, she drove financial sustainability and led target delivery while scaling up critical investments in fragile, conflict-affected situations and nations eligible for International Development Association (IDA) support.
Earlier in her tenure, she served as IFC’s regional head of industry for manufacturing, agribusiness and services in Latin America and the Caribbean, where she directed regional business development, investment execution and portfolio management.
Ms Moyo holds an academic background in economic development and financial systems, holding a bachelor’s degree in Economic History from the University of Zimbabwe and a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Wales.
