Exhibitors shun Hwange agric show

Victoria Falls Reporter
DATES for the 2016 Hwange Agricultural Show have been set despite concerns over the low response from exhibitors. Organisers say the event would be held between August 4 and 7 under the theme “Unlocking the potential of SMEs for employment creation”. Over the years the show has failed to live to expectations due to lack of support from the tourism sector, government departments and other giant businesses in Matabeleland North province.

Hwange Agricultural Society chairperson Mr Herbert Siansole said while preparatory work has started, response was still low. “We’ve held three meetings but the response is very low as only a few have viewed stands,” he said.

“We want to appeal to the government departments to support the local show as they do to the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair and the Harare Agricultural Show. There are people as well this side who would want to know what happens in government. They should decentralise, that’s our plea.”
