The Mutasa business community has urged Government to expedite the commissioning of Katiyo Border Post in Honde Valley that links Zimbabwe and Mozambique, as delays were prejudicing them of potential revenue.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held at St Columbus Secondary School in Hauna recently, development partners said they were still committed to fund the opening of the border post.
Eastern Highlands Plantations Limited has committed $250 000 towards the construction of Katiyo Border Post bridge and has since written a letter to Mutasa North legislator Cde Chido Madiwa, stating their commitment.
“As a group, we remain committed to assisting in the implementation of projects in the valley as soon as the authorities adopt the projects and properly commit to them, read part of the letter written to Cde Madiwa,” she said.
“For your own information, we have already made a commitment to build a bridge and availed $250 000 in the last couple of years for the project that is yet to take off once approved.”
Cde Madiwa has since written to Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs Dr Ellen Gwaradzimba, requesting assistance from her office to speed up the commissioning process for the border post and other projects in Mutasa.
She said the projects had downstream benefits to Mutasa community and the country at large.
