The highly anticipated second edition of the Doek and Slay event is scheduled to take place on Saturday at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
It will feature performances from musicians ExQ and Baba Harare as the headline acts, taking over from Trevor Dongo who was a hit at the inaugural event held in October.
ExQ, renowned for hits like “Pahukama” and “Nhema” has garnered a massive following both locally and internationally. His energetic performances and catchy tunes have made him a favourite among music lovers.
On the other hand, Baba Harare is known for his unique “Jiti” style, with songs such as “The Reason Why” and “Chikwama” becoming anthems in the country.
On the decks will be DJ Mzoe and Simba Tunes, adding to the musical experience.
Anesu Rwanga, the brainchild behind the event, expressed excitement about the upcoming edition, noting that ticket sales are going well.
“We’re thrilled with the response from the public, having sold about 53% of our tickets. This is a great achievement considering the venue’s capacity.”
Rwanga added, “The uniqueness of this edition is that we’ve secured Baba Harare, the man of the moment with danceable songs. So people should expect more fire and groove as Baba Harare will be replacing Feli Nandi. Attendees from the Diaspora and South Africa will also bring a new dimension to the event.”
Doek and Slay, a unique event celebrating women from all walks of life, encourages attendees to dress in shades of brown, army green, white doeks and shades.
Rwanga expressed gratitude for the public’s support and urged those who have not purchased tickets to do so promptly.
“We want to ensure that everyone who wants to attend this amazing event gets a chance to do so.”
Since its inception in March, the Doek and Slay event has gained popularity, attracting a diverse audience from different parts of Zimbabwe. Beyond entertainment, the event serves as a platform for women to share business ideas and musicians to showcase their talent. – @TashaMutsiba.
