A REPORT over how extra lessons have ignited an uproar at a primary school in Harare appears to have touched a raw nerve among our readers.
Many of them are saying that this practice is rampant at many of the country’s schools, including Government schools. They claim that many teachers are using these extra lessons not to help the pupils but it has now become a convenient way of supplementing their income. What stood out, from their feedback, however, was that this is now rampant and acceptable at many schools countrywide. Here are some of their comments:

I had to transfer my child from there coz apparently an ECD child was made to pay US$15 a month for extra lessons. The teachers there are so greedy #ngazvivhariswe they don’t teach in the classroom and they also don’t concentrate with those who are not paying for the so-called extra lessons. —Letwin Mhike
