AFTER years of striving to establish himself in the competitive music industry, Magwegwe-bred Umthobanhliziyo Tribal Sound founder, Fab G MshanakaGogo, has finally struck gold.

His latest offering, Imali Yes’gweja, has become a fan favourite, dominating playlists, dance floors and social media platforms.

The song, composed by Fab G himself, was produced by South Africa’s CheckKid Beats, with Cliff Jeans from Street Menace Studios handling vocal mixing and mastering.

Its infectious rhythm and relatable lyrics have earned Fab G massive traction, turning him into one of the most sought-after performers ahead of the festive season.

For the first time in his career, Fab G finds himself at the centre of promoters’ attention, with bookings lined up for major festive events, including the Bulawayo Shutdown set for December 27.

Nominated for Outstanding Male Artiste of the Year at the Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA), Fab G said the song draws inspiration from the daily struggles and triumphs of miners (oGweja) who work hard to secure a living.

“The concept for Imali Yes’gweja began as a freestyle performance at a live event in eMawabeni, where I connected with the audience by singing something relatable to them since most were ogweja. When I sang the part that became the chorus, the crowd’s overwhelming reaction inspired me to turn it into a full track,” said Fab G.

Beyond its catchy sound, the track’s success has also been boosted by its visuals, which have received widespread praise. Fab G credited Brooklyn Films International and socialite Sporori, for their creative direction.

“To give the song more life and visual appeal, we shot the video at a mine in Esigodini, capturing the raw essence of miners’ lives and their celebratory moments. We worked closely with the Vintage Culture Association and the Royal Finest Dance Crew from Old Magwegwe, who starred as dancers and actors. The success of this project is a result of teamwork,” he said.

With the festive season fast approaching, Fab G said he is ready to capitalise on the momentum and deliver electrifying performances for his growing fan base.

“I’m receiving great feedback from fans across the country and even from the diaspora. While I’ve been booked for some major gigs, I’m still open to more opportunities.

“When one is given a chance, they must grab it with both hands, and I’m ready to deliver for my fans,” he said.
