Facebook pays US$18 billion for being addictive to children

META has reached an $18 billion settlement following lawsuits from 52 states accusing the tech giant of engineering addictive features that harmed youth.

Starting today, teenage users on Facebook and Instagram face mandatory default changes, including:

A 2-hour daily usage cap.

A midnight to 6 a.m. curfew on the platforms.

Silence on notifications during school hours.

This settlement establishes a national blueprint and heavily pressures competitors like TikTok and

YouTube to adopt similar safeguards.
