Facelift for Byo swimming pools

THE Bulawayo City Council has revealed plans to refurbish and commission the Luveve and Mpopoma swimming pools this year.

The Bulawayo City Pool is the only functional public pool after it benefited from the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games renovations in 2014.

Other pools have not been working for years and little has been done to rehabilitate the dilapidated facilities.

According to the latest council minutes, the local authority through the department of Housing and Community Services, are set to rehabilitate and commission the Luveve and Mpopoma swimming pools this year.

In 2017, Bulawayo successfully hosted the Central Africa Association Zone VI Championships, the Water Polo Championships and the Youth Games.

The rehabilitation and commissioning of the defunct pools will be boost to swimming in the city.

Council also plans to resurface the White City Stadium pitch to meet international standards.

Revamping sporting facilities will also boost the city’s chances of hosting major regional events which at the moment are being staged in Harare.
