Sakubva long-distance bus terminus is set for a facelift, with council intending to construct shades and resurface the tarmac. Market stalls will also be refurbished as well.
Mutare town clerk Mr Joshua Maligwa told The Herald during a tour of the bus terminus by Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs Senator Monica Mutsvangwa last Friday that they were geared on improving standards. Minister Mutsvangwa and council held a meeting with traders and transporters at the terminus last month.
“Council in conjunction with other private partners will refurbish the bus terminus. There are plans to construct shades and resurface the tarmac,” said Mr Maligwa. He said companies and individuals had shown interest in the project.
“There are some companies and banks who bid to partner Mutare City Council. After we have gone through all the processes and opening the tenders, we will then inform you of the those who would be working with council,” he said.
Mr Maligwa promised to reduce rentals for market stalls after traders complained that they were too high. Minister Mutsvangwa applauded council for its efforts to improve conditions at the bus terminus.
“I would like to thank the city council for the work they are doing here. I have heard some of the traders confessing that some of the problems they were facing are now being addressed. I know that all the problems cannot be solved in one day, but I hope council will continue attending to those problems.” Mutare Mayor Councillor Tatenda Nhamarare said council will continue engaging residents to improve service delivery.
“We will continue working with residents and we will try by all means to address the challenges being faced by residents. We will also work together with residents in refuse collection,” he said.
