Twenty-four Faith Bwalya from Kitwe, was crowned Miss World Zambia 2025 on April 20th, in Lusaka, Zambia.
The model stood out with the trending costume designed by Ivhu Tribe.
Titled “Daughter of the Land: The Spirit of Zambia,” Ivhu Tribe has continued its mission to amplify the continent’s unique cultures and experiences.
An exquisite fusion of symbolism and craftsmanship, the costume tells a story that echoes through the valleys of the Zambezi.
The costume incorporates elements that align with current fashion trends which includes sustainable and cultural storytelling through fashion, the use of symbolic and meaningful motifs, mix of traditional and modern elements, emphasis on empowerment and femininity, luxe materials and craftsmanship.
In an interview with the Zimpapers Entertainment Hub, the director Trish Degwa said collaborating with neighbouring countries, allows them to tap into the shared heritage and history that binds Africa together.
“Our brand is deeply rooted in showcasing the richness and diversity of African narratives. When we create, we aim to amplify the continent’s unique stories, cultures, and experiences.
“Collaborating with neighbouring countries allows us to tap into the shared heritage and history that binds us, making it effortless to craft compelling stories that resonate with audiences.
“By celebrating the African experience, we hope to promote cross cultural understanding, appreciation, and unity. Our creative endeavours serve as a testament to the continent’s beauty, resilience, and creativity,” she said.
The costume features cowry shells – a symbol of fertility, protection, and divine femininity. A reminder of the strength carried in the body and spirit of every Zambian woman.
It has golden wings that representing freedom, drawn directly from the eagle on the Zambian flag. Just as the eagle soars above all barriers, these wings declare a nation rising, unchained, confident, and proud.
Around her hips flows a majestic gold-feathered like skirt, moving like sunlight across savannah grass. The skirt is regal, fluid, alive. It symbolises Zambia’s mineral wealth, particularly its gold and copper, and also speaks to the nurturing strength of Zambian women, grounded, radiant, and unyielding.
Anchoring the entire ensemble are miniature elephant sculptures representing power, memory, and leadership, mirroring Zambia’s great elephants of South Luangwa. The presence of these giants are a tribute to the nation’s wisdom and enduring legacy, passed on through stories, traditions, and strength.
Ivhu Tribe approach serves as a testament to the continent’s rich cultural heritage and its ability to inspire creative expression. By promoting African stories and experiences, the brand hopes to contribute to a more understanding of the continent and its people.
