‘FAKE’ PREGNANCY TEARS UK MAN’S MARRIAGE APART

Arron Nyamayaro

A WOMAN’S marriage is in trouble, just five months after her parents received lobola, following a dispute over her claims she was pregnant and the subsequent miscarriage.

Tadiwanashe Mildred Maradzika, 26, and Carlton Nyahunzvi, 26, never lived together as husband and wife.

Carlton, who is based in the UK, claims Mildred falsely claimed to be pregnant, prompting him to pay lobola sooner than he had planned.

He later questioned the medical records she provided after she said she had suffered a miscarriage.

Carlton then asked a relative to deliver a token of divorce to Mildred’s family.

However, her parents refused to accept it.

They later took her from Dangamvura in Mutare, where the roora ceremony was held, to Carlton’s home village in Murehwa.

Mildred was not accepted by Carlton’s parents.

After staying there for two weeks, she returned to Mutare where she is now staying with a relative.

Carlton has since taken the dispute to Chief Mutasa’s traditional court, where he plans to formally hand over the divorce token.

The matter is expected to be heard tomorrow, following several postponements.

The dispute has also drawn in Mildred’s mother, Tapuwa Charity Dzinemarira, and a doctor whom Carlton alleges was involved in preparing false medical documents.

Charity confirmed the dispute and said Carlton should attend court himself rather than send his brothers.

“My son-in-law has approached a traditional court to hand over a token of divorce to my daughter over unfounded allegations,” she said.

“My daughter suffered a miscarriage and Carlton suspected that she was not pregnant. “

She added:

“He ordered a video recording of the medical process but we were not allowed to record such procedures.

“He then continued to doubt the medical records because he is based in the UK.

“He engaged his brothers to hand over a token of divorce, which we refused to accept. He then approached a traditional leader.

“Carlton must attend the court and not be represented by his brothers in a matter directly involving him, considering that he paid lobola.

“My daughter was humiliated when we took her to Murehwa. She has since returned and is staying with one of our relatives here in Mutare while awaiting the court date.”

Mildred could not be reached for comment.

Carlton said he no longer wished to continue with the marriage, alleging that the medical documents he received were fake.

“I loved my wife but she decided to enter the marriage with falsehood,” he said.

“She claimed that she was pregnant and I was forced to pay lobola on a date I was not prepared for. “That put me off after I discovered that she was not pregnant.

“I communicated with her mother and the two decided to engage a medical doctor to prepare fake documents.

‘Handina kupusa zvekudaro uye imba haitangwe nenzira yakadaro. I checked with the hospital where the miscarriage was said to have been handled.

“The doctor they claim attended to them was not on duty that day. He assisted them with fake documents to fool me, and that disappointed me.

“I no longer want to take Mildred as my wife. That is why I am seeking justice before the traditional courts.”

H-Metro is in possession of the medical records, which Carlton claims are fake.

The doctor, who has been named in the scandal, could not be reached for comment by the time of publication.
