ORGANISERS of the Fally Ipupa Concert yesterday announced that the “Sexy Dance” singer will not make it to the show scheduled for November 1 at Glamis Stadium in Harare after it emerged the Congolese rhumba star was unable to get a connecting flight from Harare to Equatorial Guinea for another gig the following day.
However, the organisers — Riverclear Promotions in conjunction with Zimcafe who travelled last week to Kinshasa to sign a contract with the singer — said due to poor connectivity affecting most African countries, they were unable to secure a private jet as Fally had demanded.
“We were in DRC last week where we among other things toured Kinshasa as well as met Fally Ipupa and his management. It was only after the meeting that we discovered that Fally had been booked for a show in Equatorial Guinea.
“The arrangement was Fally could perform in Zimbabwe on November 1 and then the next day he flies off to Equatorial Guinea, but unfortunately due to expenses involved, we were unable to get a private jet for him and his band,” Isaac “F&B Guru” Neshamba, one of the organisers said.
Fally confirmed he was unable to come to Zimbabwe due to his pressing schedule.
“Like any other Congolese, I owe it to Zimbabweans and I look forward to coming to Harare but due to circumstances beyond my control I can’t make it this time. Zimbabwe I love you and hope to be seeing you soon,” he said.
Fally Ipupa was supposed to perform in Zimbabwe for the first time as a solo artiste alongside Oliver Mtukudzi, Jah Prayzah, Alick Macheso and Suluman Chimbetu.
Neshamba said the gig will go ahead on November 1 without Fally.
“What we have done is that since we had secured the venue and Zimbabwean artistes, the gig will still go ahead on the same date and with the same line-up of musicians without Fally.
“The gig is now called Zim’s Finest because we have all the big names currently rocking the crowds in and outside Zimbabwe,” he said.
Neshamba has since apologised to music lovers who would have wanted to watch Fally on stage saying the gig was rich in Zimbabwean talent.
“Just like most fans, we were saddened by the development but what is encouraging is that we made contacts with Fally and his management with the hope of bringing him to Harare soon. But what we are saying is that we still have a good show by Zimbabweans for Zimbabweans.
“We hope to deliver one of the most memorable shows to date with Tuku, Sulu, Macheso and Jah Prayzah.
“Remember we had put in place everything for a world class show and this is what music lovers should expect,” Neshamba said.
