THE trial of Trevor Dongo’s girlfriend and her friend, who are accused of burning the musician’s property in his rented apartment, failed to kick off once again.

The girlfriend, Tanaka Mafukidze (24) and her friend Prudent Chipo Musimike (25) appeared before Harare magistrate Letwin Rwodzi.

The trial couldn’t commence because Musimuke had an outstanding warrant of arrest after failing to appear in court during the previous hearing.

The warrant of arrest was, however, cancelled.

The trial will commence on July 30. It is alleged that on March 21, 2025, a flat at 9 Residell Flat in Harare, belonging to Rosemary Danda, caught fire.

Danda was alerted by her brother and upon arrival, observed the flat burning and two seemingly inebriated women at the scene.

Initial investigations led to Danda’s tenant, Trevor Dongo. It was discovered that on the day of the incident, Dongo was with his girlfriend, Tanaka, who had been out for lunch with her friend, Prudent.

Dongo invited Tanaka to his flat, and she arrived with Prudent. When Prudence entered the flat, a disagreement arose between Dongo and Tanaka concerning Prudent’s presence.

Dongo left to pick up a friend, and while he was gone, Tanaka and Prudent had a misunderstanding and, in the process, set the house on fire.

When Dongo returned, he found his property burning, and the estimated value of the damaged property is US$21 178.
