A MAGWEGWE family in Bulawayo has appealed for assistance in raising US$220 for their five-year-old son, Shelton Siziba, to have scans done to determine whether he had a brain tumour or not.
According to the boy’s mother, Mrs Sithokozile Ncube it was suspected that he had a brain tumor at United Bulawayo Hospitals in April this year after being transferred from Filabusi hospital where he first went to seek medical attention after vomiting for days.
Before his tumor diagnosis and transfer to Mpilo Central Hospital Shelton was first diagnosed with malaria and he got treatment at Filabusi Hospital.
“After being treated for malaria, Shelton’s condition worsened and he had to be transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital where he first underwent medical tests that were not clear, which led to him being transferred to United Bulawayo Hospital for further medical tests that is where the doctors suspected a brain tumor and lack of funds is delaying the process for them to do a scan that will confirm whether he has a tumour or not,” said Mrs Ncube.
She said due to her circumstances she was finding it difficult to raise the US$220 that was required.
“When he was admitted at Mpilo he was being given injections, and medical tests were done on him but the results were not clear, we were only told at UBH that they suspected a brain tumor and before they could treat him he had to undergo a scan that costs US$220, which we do not have,” said Mrs Ncube.
“It pains me to see him like this it’s been four months now, his peers are going to school, I am asking for well-wishers to help me raise the US$220 for him to undergo a scan and then get treatment,” she said.
