Family blames BCC for Ald Mpofu’s death

THE family of the late outspoken councillor and controversial politician Alderman Charles Mpofu has blamed the Bulawayo City Council for his death. Ald Mpofu 55, died recently from injuries he sustained after he was knocked down by an unlicensed truck driver in Emganwini.
His brother Reginald Mpofu yesterday said the family strongly believed the tall grass caused the accident.

“I visited the accident scene and Iam convinced the accident could have been avoided had council cut the tall grass,” Mpofu said.
He said council should act swiftly to cut the tall grass as the area could become a black spot.

Mpofu however expressed gratitude to council for the honour it bestowed on Ald Mpofu.

Asked to comment,Bulawayo Mayor Martin Moyo said: “It’s regrettable that the accident happened and if it was caused by the tall grass it is also regrettable.”

He however said council was working hard to clear arreas affectedd by tall grass which he  blamed on good rains received this season.
