IN a harrowing revelation, concerned relatives have come forward to expose the alleged continuous rape of Nomagugu Natasha Siziba by her stepfather, Farai Madamombe, in Pelandaba suburb, Bulawayo.
The shocking abuse is said to have gone on unabated for years, beginning when Nomagugu’s mother left her and her younger brother, Sibusiso Sithole, in Madamombe’s care in 2014.
“Nomagugu has suffered unimaginable abuse for years,” said a distraught family member.
“We believe this began shortly after her mother left them under Madamombe’s care. What was supposed to be a safe home became a nightmare for both siblings. The situation got worse when Madamombe married another wife—this is when the abuse escalated.”
The extent of the trauma came to light when Sibusiso reportedly walked in on Madamombe raping Nomagugu. Despite their efforts to report the matter to the police, justice never came.
“The police refused to prosecute him,” the relative continued. “He has strong ties with local law enforcement and is a member of the ruling Zanu-PF. This gave him the confidence to act with impunity.”
The family revealed that Nomagugu’s suffering was exacerbated by community hostility. When rumors spread that she was a lesbian, the community turned against her and her brother, branding her a “bad influence” who was corrupting other girls.
“Even though many suspected the abuse, no one in the community was willing to come forward as a witness. They judged her for her sexuality instead of protecting her,” the relative said.
As the abuse and community hostility mounted, Nomagugu and her brother recently fled to their rural home in Esigodini. However, their safety remains uncertain as relatives fear that Madamombe may follow them.
“We are terrified for their lives,” said the relative. “Madamombe has been heard boasting that they would pay for tarnishing his image. This man is dangerous, and we’re pleading for authorities to intervene before it’s too late.”
The family is calling for an urgent investigation into the allegations and for law enforcement to hold Madamombe accountable.
“Nomagugu and Sibusiso deserve justice and the chance to rebuild their lives free from fear,” the relative concluded.
The case highlights troubling issues of abuse, systemic corruption, and societal judgment, leaving many to question how many other victims may be suffering in silence due to similar circumstances. Local authorities have yet to respond to the allegations.
