A FAMILY dinner turned into a courtroom drama after a Bulawayo man allegedly attacked his sister over leftover food she said was meant for her child.

Phillip Nkomo (29) of Thokozani Flats in Mzilikazi suburb appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Abednico Ndebele facing a charge of physical abuse. He was remanded in custody to Friday.

According to the State, represented by Sibusisiwe Sithole, the bizarre family fight broke out on 1 October when Nkomo tried to help himself to food that his sister had set aside.

“The complainant left some leftover food, which the accused wanted to eat. However, the complainant refused, saying she had reserved it for her son,” said Sithole.

Angered by the refusal, Nkomo allegedly flew into a rage and unleashed a flurry of heavy punches on his sister, leaving her with a swollen eye and bruised forehead.

The woman reported the assault to the police, leading to her brother’s arrest. She was treated at Mpilo Central Hospital.

The case continues on Friday.
