In a shocking turn of events, the family homestead belonging to Bahle Fynn and Sitokozile Sibanda in Mloyi village under Chief Vota in Kezi, was reportedly burnt down in what is believed to be a politically motivated attack.
The sisters who are teachers by profession are known for their involvement in mobilizing people in the village to join the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), were allegedly singled out as the leaders of the opposition group in the area.
According to a villager who wished to remain anonymous, “Fynn and Sibanda’s active involvement in opposition politics led to the burning down of their house.” The source indicated that the couple’s efforts to rally support for the MDC had drawn the ire of certain individuals, ultimately resulting in the devastating destruction of their family home.
What makes this incident even more distressing is that this is not the first time the family has found themselves in the middle of political turmoil. In February 2019, during the nationwide strikes in January, the family suffered the tragic loss of their mother, Elsie Mgutshini. It was reported that Mgutshini had passed away at the hands of authorities after groceries she had been receiving from Fynn were alleged to be part of the looted items from supermarkets during the demonstrations.
The community is reeling from these distressing events, and calls for a thorough investigation into the burning of the family’s homestead are growing louder. Concerns have been raised about the safety and security of individuals engaging in political activities, and many are calling for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing political tensions in the area.
