A family in Matshamhlophe village, Plumtree, Mangwe district, has revealed that their nephew, Ernest Ncube, was recently abducted and brutally assaulted amid a bitter inheritance dispute concerning the Chief David Ncube Mzilankatha chieftainship position.
The attack has left Ernest with serious bodily injuries, forcing him to avoid returning to his home village.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, one of Ernest’s uncles on his mother’s side explained that the conflict stems from his paternal uncle, Stanley Ncube, who has long expressed his intention to succeed Ernest’s father, the current Chief David Ncube, who is now advanced in age.

“Stanley has openly identified himself as the next chief, claiming that as my brother David gets older, the position should pass to him,” the uncle said. “We believe he is behind this horrific attack on Ernest to intimidate him and clear the way for his succession.”
According to the family, Ernest was forcibly taken and severely beaten, losing consciousness during the ordeal. He sustained multiple injuries, including severe damage to his mouth that resulted in the loss of many teeth, as well as significant wounds to his feet and other parts of his body.
Since the assault, Ernest has not dared to return to Matshamhlophe, fearing for his safety.
Ernest had previously reported threats from his uncles to the police. However, when he attempted to report the recent violent attack at Mambale Base Police Station, his case was dismissed as a “family matter,” with officers refusing to take action.
The family is appealing to authorities to intervene and ensure justice for Ernest, as well as to restore peace in the chieftainship succession dispute that has now escalated into violence.
