Family speaks on locking up niece in house

Nozibelo Maphosa, Sunday News Reporter
THE family of Nkosilathi Sebele, the 33-year-old Bulawayo man who was reportedly locked and left alone at a house in Cowdray Park for two months has said the move was done to protect him.

Mrs Immaculate Sebele who is Nkosilathi’s aunt said the reason why he was being locked in the house was that Mr Danisiwe Ngwenya, a distant relative once tried to “steal” him.

“My mother went to South Africa for treatment and was admitted. It’s not two months but she has been away for only a month. The reason why Nkosilathi was locked up in the house was for his safety as Danisiwe has tried to steal him before, the last time he took him to the airport. Nkosilathi went missing for a week. Nkosilathi has never been left alone in the house, he is always left in the care of his aunt, Thandiwe Sebele who works in Tshabalala, every day after knocking off she goes to Nkosilathi,” she said.

She said the report has brought shame to the family and wondered why Mr Ngwenya was employing dirty tactics instead of just approaching the family.

“It’s such a shame that now people think my mother is heartless, if Danisiwe had a problem with how Nkosilathi was being treated he should have approached us and spoke about this, not to tell the Press lies about our family. Each time he comes to our house he causes trouble,” said Mrs Sebele.

A Sunday News crew visited the house recently where neighbours told the news crew that they suspected Nkosilathi had been locked up and left alone.
